I am Norse

from the ABC set Cave of the Storm Nymphs

It seems I am Norse
the curve of one dead girl's cheek and her eyes
looked out of my college yearbook
another and another's red angel hair is mine
If my son walked down a street in a town near Utoya
a family we do not know
would fall on him with tears of joy
they would think the fjord
gave up his grey green eyes
with laughter still in them

It does not protect me that my family
comes from Cornwall and Scotland, and Kent
Celts, Brigantes, Iceni
at some time
a Viking stayed to trade

I like this poem very much. 'Curve of one dead girls cheek' I like that.

A handshake

Good lament- I suppose nothing really protects us, does it? The tragedy is so sad-so hard on the Mothers and Fathers-

My current empty nest is temporary (Gods permitting), but the recognition of similar genes and appearance is actually true. It is much harder not to feel the weight of strangers grief and horror when it all seems close to home.
My kids are within that age group and we do actually look a lot like some of the victims. I have no right to any sorrow ,but it is perhaps in parental bones to feel it anyway. Ones crosses ones fingers when they become a bit independent and hop out of the nest.

beautifully done

one little typo: you're missing the apostrophe off girl's in the second line

Thanks , I have added one to another's too but I am never sure about line breaks and punctuation.
