Ode to Winter

Early rising tired and cold
Achy bones make me feel old
Frosty morning, Wintery skies
Runny nose and watery eyes

Silver grey the glittering pavement
Gloves and scarves the cold lament
Evenings darken, hearths alight
Blankets warm this wintery night.

Soon the windows will be shining
Festive lights and stars entwining
Merry folk a wassailing go
Hoping for the gift of snow

Once days pass, a new year’s born
Hope and resolutions sworn
Times will change and lives may splinter
But none can halt the coming winter
