Clueless

from the ABC set Poems For Cyril

If I had a clue,
you'd have heard of me.
It's just so hard to tell
the diamonds from the dross,
the marmalade from the Marmite
or the Fragonard from the fake.

Should I give it up,
stop going round in
circles? Do less to add
some value through a lack,
gain approval for dull diligence,
find the McGuffin for success?

If you had a clue,
you would be like me:
it's not so hard to tell
your diamonds are just dross,
your marmalade tastes like Marmite
and your Fragonard is a fake.
