The last time you wore a hat,
it was straw, with freesias
and a ribbon.
It meant something: "a woman
meets a man on her own,
in a smart hat."
I used one week's coupons in
the restaurant at dinner
with not one drink.
A summer hat for a day
in the sunshine, bare-legs
and a print dress.
I undid the buttons, but I'm
glad - the last ever time – you
kept on that hat.

enjoyed this, I have abvpenchant for hats too! Ever read Milan Kundera? I think its in Unbearable lighntness of Being, there's a great scene in that where she doesn't take off the hat.

Yes, I read the Unbearable etc when it first came out... a real lover's book, or so I thought at the time. Desperately disappointed in the film though.

I love hats too but not dressed with flowers. Lovely short one, Ewan. I agree with you; the film of Unbearable... was a big disappointment.

it's that fleeting reference to the undoing of the buttons which just makes this for me - fleeting it may but it's all that it implies....... Margot
