Letter

Dear Wendy,

Long time no whatever, eh? God, I was surprised to hear from you... really. After all that stuff. You never know, though, do you? To be honest your letter was a bit po-faced. I mean, be serious! (Joke).

I have to say, like, it's not for me. Mortgages, no more fun and stuff. That's not your Peter, is it?

Yeah, well. I see the attraction, mind. People would take you, I don't know, seriously. Being responsible for stuff, wow! That's b-i-g stuff, isn't it?

Belle says hi, bet that surprised you! Between you and me she's not the fun she used to be. I reckon the rot set in a while back, I mean why change your name just to impress people? She slapped me last time I called her T____. (See, I'm scared to even write it, she might read this before I send it!)

Sorry to hear about Mr and Mrs D. Perhaps that's part of it, hey? Glad I'm an orphan, on the whole.

Anyway, keep in touch, don't leave it so long. Sorry this is short, but, tick-tock, tick-tock, I'm in the mood for a bit of pirate-baiting.

Love Peter

Superbly clever! I confess I had to read it twice!

I never heard of pirate-bating before. I love it. Perhaps it's because I'm drinking coffee, but it seems to have a really fidgety feel to it, whilst at the same time remaining quite casual. Is He ridiculing her, missing her, and still wanting to keep some distance all at the same time?

Very complicated, but really great.

Complicated, hmm...

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but it's somehow foreign. I never received or sent anything like this to anyone and to me it's just full of the unsaid from past shared lives which always get complicated if they were relationships with any depth.

I still love it.
