Who Do We Think We Are?

from the ABC set The Long and the Short of It...

Clever, bitter words
mocking heartfelt efforts at
communication.

Laughing up our sleeves,
as heartless as a balloon
-all pretension

ourselves - did we but
hold the mirror up for
honest scrutiny.

Not Pope and Dryden
in our feuding - let’s admit
we’re Punch and Judy.

Well Ewan, if it cheers you up any I always thought I was more Punch than Pope. In general this place is quite polite I think, what moved you to this poetic stiletto?

Yes, I hope Ewan is near a keyboard when in a next bad mood, and I'm more Judy than anything.

People will always put other people down, it's a people thing and words remain far longer than punches. Nice one Ewan. Did it help? I always feel purged after a good old ramble when something's bothering me... poetry has the same effect. And if this is what comes of somebody annoying you then let it happen more often because it's one for the portfolio.
