Train Home

from the ABC set Reflections

Faces, spaces,
Smiles, stares,
tilting head to a lover's cheek;

Windows flashing,
Reflections, gazing , chatting,
patiently waiting in life's journey;

What a myriad of hopes and fears
bottled in this wasteland of brightness;
What lies behind these transfixed eyes?

What dreams lie behind the stares?
What devastation as the doors close,
shut tight, on the last touches of romance?
What silent cries do we ignore?

Boyfriends kiss girlfriends,
Mums hug daughters,
Fathers wave goodbye to their children,
and the world turns it's bitter twist;

Insist we may,
Detest we must,
but headlong we rush to our worst fear;

A fear of loss and loneliness;
To be alone in the world ,
waiting,watching,hoping,
for the next train
to take us
home.
