Blackbird singing.

I thought I was deeply concentrated,
when I was beckoned onto the balcony.
I heard a familiar sound.
I opened up the windows
and listened.
All was otherwise quiet,
children having gone indoors
as the earth turned away from the sun.
The blackbird was singing.
Such a sweet melody!
Telling of Spring and the warmth of the day .
The song filled my heart
with joy and the pleasure of anticipation
after a long, cold winter.
It dawned on me
that Spring had finally arrived.

Beautiful, this one, Pia. Blackbirds do have a wonderful song. Many of them nested in our hedge last spring, and I'm hoping they'll do the same this year, although they really are extremely territorial creatures and more than protective of their young...as every good parent should be, of course;-)

Hi Pia,

sorry I'm a bit late to this poem, but better late
than never, don't you think?

I think the blackbird is one of my favourite birds,
so I'm glad that you have written this beautiful
poem. They can also be quite funny, especially when
the male is hopping around after the female to mate,
it's really comical.

So you have at last got spring at your end of the world, I'm so pleased, it's about time I think.

Thankyou so much for this beautiful read, very much
enjoyed.

Jenny.
