Uhm Life

I’ve had a lot of odd jobs
Started off babysitting
Then shoplifting
Rubbish, shop assistant
Teenage fashion model
Another round of counter-jumper
Laundry worker
Home carer
Cleaning cleaning cleaning
Member of the hospital cleaning staff
Together with refugees from Chile
With University degrees in the 70’s
In between high school graduate
More home care
Wiping windows,doing the shopping
And cleaning for the elderly
Cooking and gardening
Feeding their cats
More than once because they wouldn’t believe
I already had- well they had forgotten that I had
I dunno but I didn’t feed them too much
Just pretended I fed the cat each time
They asked while buttering me a piece of bread with
Honey- yet another piece- no plate- on top of the tablecloth
Was so much fun and really they were so sweet
And had so many lovely stories
To tell about the olden days
I loved it in my long skirt and straw hat
Cycling from place to place
Home to home
Beautiful old people
School again
An education
Children
Libraries
Books lots of them
Reading all the time
Anything new
And everything old
Balzac, Blixen, Whitman,
Faulkner, Jong, French,
Sartre, de Beauvoir,
Nin, Greer
Then everything stopped for a while-
a long while
Never picked-up where I left-off
But started something new
Like Abc tales.com
I don’t think it stops there
Shifting steps between
The written and spoken word
Getting to know
Virtual people
And then my peers
At the center
We are all a merry lot
Abc has given me confidence
And lust for life
And social interaction
Not just writing but also reading
And thinking and exchanging
Views
My anglo roots
Will never leave me now
Thank goodness
Thanks everyone

I remember distinctly the very first day I noticed your name in the 'Who's New' list. And now it seems as if you have always been with ABC;-)

As Magic says, thank you for sharing, Pia. A life, most certainly, rainbow-coloured, with many different hues in between, and many more, yet to be discovered, I'll be bound;-)

Have a sunny Friday;-

Thank goodness you have found ABC Pia. You are a great writer, always interesting, funny, kind and, ABC would not be ABC without our lovely Highhat.

That really is a lovely comment OTT- thank you very much. Warms my heart and I am sure my day will be terrific after reading that.

Hi Pia, I wish there were more like you here on ABC. As well as being a talented writer, you also give so much more than the average ABCer by reading and commenting on many more works than you post yourself. By giving more than you receive you are a valuable member of the community who is worth their weight in gold. Here's to many more years.

ps I've managed to squeeze more mores in that paragraph to last a month...or more.

More is a good word OP- we can't get enough of more can we? Thank you so much for this kind comment. I wasn't expecting this much kindness from everyone who has been by this piece and it really warms my heart. Just goes to show that I was quite right about friends here.
Thank you so much OP

Hi Pia,

I'm sorry I haven't got around to reading your
piece here until now. I'm feeling so upset about
what's going on in London, and thinking about
Angels, I've got a bit lost along the way.

But now here I am reading about different parts
of your life, it's good that you have had so many
experiences. I think we were lucky to be young
when we were, because it's all going so wrong now.

Take care,

Jenny.

I am sure your angels will help you to feel a bit more secure- keep believing
