The Little Tea Pot

from the ABC set The Colour Box

I am a little tea pot,
I have a little spout,
Daddy stirs me up,
And Mammy pours me out.

Standing here beside me,
The milky jug and sugar,
On the checky table-cloth,
The favourite of my mother.

Tarts and jammy dodgers,
Will be eaten from the plate,
But I must only watch them go,
A thing I really hate.

But what I love , I must admit,
Is Mammy's caring heart,
She really loves her tea pot,
And always plays her part.

When the tea-time's over,
And all the family gone,
She rushes to the kitchen,
Then really turns me on.

Dunking me in soapy suds,
I feel so fresh and playful,
Then rinsed beneath the ice-cold tap,
I coruscate and sparkle !.

Handling me so carefully,
I never am in doubt,
That she's so very proud of me,
So never could I shout....

"Why on earth use tea-leaves,
Which always clog my spout.
There's nothing wrong with tea-bags,
I wish you'd work it out !".

Ooh, you fibber. You're not a teapot at all. You can't fool old Skunky. This is a happy poem and I award you ten smiles.

This is the cutest thing. You're very talented and the rhyme scheme is perfect. I would say "when tea time is over", however. I liked it and plan to read more if you have other posts for children. Cheers

What a wonderfully playful piece this is; I was smiling from start to finish.

This is very funny and very clever!

However, to make it even better, have you considered counting the syllables and reworking it so that the stanzas follow the same rhythm pattern? Some of your lines don't quite 'scan' for me.

p.s. shocking to suggest using teabags rather than proper tea!
