Kid

When he acted up in class at the age of six
Snapping pencils, placing Macey Drew in danger
He grew one inch taller, became transfixed
From lost at home to centre stager
Mum came down all tongue on fire
Two toddlers scuffing shoes behind
Calling all and sundry liars
Passing bookcases she'd once failed to find
At fourteen years he'd fought the school
Not long after dad jumped ship
Special needs meds just made him uncool -
Adolescent sole carer now cast adrift
Adult body, discarded core
Kicking cans down streets of old
Coloured tattoos of love and war adorned
Revealing more truth than the stories told
Doctors' scripts - the anti-ds
Chasing 'this girl' when mum went cold
Down on one knee, 'Will you marry me?'
The tears, the tears, unseen, controlled
Kid, his saviour, much to live for
An opportunity to reappear,
Embryonic stirrings of a new mentor
For this daddy is most definitely here
