A wise, old man once asked me.

A wise, old man once asked me "Do you know what’s fighting for when it's not worth dying for?"

I, at the time had no answer to this question. I was confused and baffled by the very thought of the question, however as days, weeks, even months went by I couldn't stop the question from ringing in my head. That was until I found the answer, the answer which had been laid out right in front of me the whole time only I had been blinded by the question itself.

"Do you know what’s fighting for when it's not worth dying for?"

The wise, old man happened to be my grandfather, who was also put to peace sometime during that year. Standing in front of his grave, I couldn't help but smile as I laid the flowers of all colors on top, in front of his headstone.

"Yes." I said as if he were here with me. "I know what’s fighting for, even if it's not worth dying for."

(edit-)

"It's worth everything I would fight for, but not die for."

-I don't really like this, I mostly will probably detele.

Don't delete anything. There is inspiration in every writing including this one. Life is worth fighting for. A loved one's life or the life of your nation may be worth dying for.
Your words will make people think.

It's just a little confused. I think you have to be very clear in your own head what it is that you want to say - and then say it! Keep working on this - it'll be worth it.
