Debating Waves

After spending 54 consecutive years in a school of some sort, first as a student and then as a teacher, I've raised my hand a lot and have called upon raised hands even more. You can tell the Democratic "contestants" in the South Carolina primary have been called on a lot in their school days and are used to being right. When i was child, my hand raise looked like Warren's, raising my hand up high and waving it it......Call me Call me Call me. Bloomie does a lower raise with less of a wave...indicating that he'll respond but the whole thing is kinda silly, isn't it?. Mayor Pete has a very calm raise.....very if ya call on me, I'll get it right kinda thing. Bernie does a curveball raise using two fingers to point in stead of one and keeping those fingers curled like he's releasing Uncle Charley.. Steyer and Biden kinda stick with that one finger up in air look as if they're on a golf course and measuring wind direction. This is the hand raise that I ended up with, not desperate to be called on but when called on I have not only an answer but also a first, second and thirdly to go along with my answer if you're really interested and I'm a man goddammit. Amy has a low flat palm which usually indicates if you call on me, you'll be glad that you did but I can wait but not that long. I didn't see anybody do the direct one finger point at whoever was asking the question although Bernie comes closest to it with his curveball. They all look like seals clapping for fish but what're you gonna do, that's the nature of the contest. This how we elect our president. No Big Deal....nuthin' important.

Once as I was handing out
Once as I was handing out question papers I quoted Oscar Wilde, "in examinations the foolish ask the wise questions they cannot answer". Instantly the young man's hand was up "Sir, can I ask you a question?"
Must say your signals are very sophisticated. Some students too, like you, mmm mm-mm? Wonder what my parents are going to say? Can always blame the teacher. .. . chew my pencil.
