Physical Chemistry

The cynical man
would place himself
with all the happy people.
He would listen to their stories,
their tribulations of love,
always at the ready
to insert sarcastic comment
or a scientific fact
to why they are always wrong.
He never listened
to their music
only electronic sound.
He hated vegetarians
but always cooked them
practical vegan dishes
with deserts of how he would never
restrict himself and laughed
at spiritual Indians who had to work at KFC.
But still he never left,
maybe he liked their hope.
