Desperate Times Cannot Be Measured

Desperate Times Cannot Be Measured (20th January, 2009, 9.55am)

There is an uproar across the great water,
The whole race poised, making history,
An outcry in every form of mass media;
As the world consumes itself, greedily.

Crunch, crunch, goes the Credit,
Grind, Grind, go the wheels,
Yap, Yap, bark the Politicians,
Shades of Grey is how it feels;

Desperate times cannot be weighed or measured;
There are too many liars on their way to heaven.

Does it make a difference, tonal value?
How black is Black, how pure is White?
Corruption is an indefinable muddiness,
And what is left cannot be made right.

Cheer, cheer, go the underdogs,
Clap, clap, to the finish,
Yes, yes, go the honest ones,
While the rest of them grimace;

Desperate times are simply historical repetition;
There are too many honest men lost in prison.

And what conclusions do we draw now
As we turn our eyes to God and Nation?
That angels are not the result of artifice,
But rather the product of desperation.

Slick. Repetition worked fine for me; the refrain and the repeated words both.

Hope this gets a cherry, in spite of being an 'opinion'-based piece.

Well done, Jen

This has a very lyrical quality to it. Did you hear a tune when writing this. Love it!

'How black is Black, how pure is White?'

I love this line and the whole poem really made me think. I love this piece and all your work Jennifer- it's always so thought-provoking and crafty. Well done.

Nathan.
