Your heart beats for a father
pacing forth n’ back inside
the hospital corridor
weary and frantic, thinking
in fear
of losing his daughter,
cascaded into the memory missed
of an eight year old
clinching Daddy’s worn out fishing cap
on their annual camping trip.
She spurts, “Daddy, I’m like you!”
A swaying serenade in her laugh.
A prance to her step near the flickers of a campfire.
He must wait.
Now forever racing [your heart] inside this chest of mine.
You were, I’m sure, quite emphatically divine
and I thank you.
And mourn
the unknown, emphatically divine.

The image of the fishing cap and that cryptic last line were very enjoyable moments.
