Marionettes

from the ABC set PLAYING GAMES

Every word you say

And every move you make,

won't take my breath away,

and I'll be watching you.

For you are driven here,

And then you're driven there.

That's all that you can do,

your strings so sad and blue.

Your future is at stake

while you jump and run and sway.

The strings attached to you

don't let you go astray.

And every word you say

your Master said it first.

You learn from your own thirst

to be considered true.

But all your mimicked lies,

your gestures so subdued,

your meek smiles and cries

make a laughing stock of you.

Pathetic and so sad,

even your soul has strings.

Your mouth and vision too.

Dramatic course of things !

Your Master shut your lips,

and closed your eyes to life.

You're sinking low and deep...

Strife you're going through.

Beware that all your strings

don't get entangled, mate !

Don't trip. Don't jump. Don't fall!

Don't feel debased and small.

Your strings as gold will glow

(the chains attached to you )

It's never , geezzz! , too late

to consider letting go.

Have you been listening to The Police, by any chance?

'And every move you make,

won't take my breath away,

and I'll be watching you.'

Seems rather familiar!
