RIVER OF LIFE

At my feet the river ran,

All the tangled roots embanked

Yews and poplars, oaks and pines,

The esoteric rules and signs.

The garden glowed beneath the limes

The perfume stung my heart, my rhymes.

'Do what thou wilt', my Master claims

It's all The Law, the Whole, The Game.

I stood above all human crimes,

I looked with scorn what life demands.

It's all so mean and meaningless !

I choose to live...Ah!...Nonetheless...
