They will have me tight-lipped, straight backed, suitably attired
I will put up and shut up, keep my chin up, smile and say please
I give them Portia, feel Ophelia.
Seething beneath, a mass of conviction and insecurity
I think my own kind of sorcery
Pencil skirted outrage,
I will be a fraction of me.

I like that, I feel like that everyday...although maybe more pinstripe outrage in my case, the skirt just wouldn't go down well with my boss...
I can sense your frustration here, the showing them one face but retaining your true feelings, letting them bubble beneath the surface. I'm no expert on poetry so can't offer a deeper critique, but I know what I like and I react to what I like and this is good.

The first association I made when I read this poem is with The Applicant, by Sylvia Plath. I'm not sure I can explain why. nor whether this association will be clear to anyone else either!
I really like this poem - but have slight reservations about the following lines:
I will put up and shut up, keep my chin up, smile and say please
Seething beneath, a mass of conviction and insecurity
as I think they don't flow quite as well as the rest - but I am certainly no expert so please feel free to disregard this!!

I just re-read the applicant and I see what you mean... it wasn't intentional, but I am a fan, so it's a welcome comment.
