Dust

from the ABC set Poems

And as I sat perched upon the giant H
Of the sign in the hills,
Legs dangling in the air,
Eyes looking all around.
I saw cars blur highways,
People wandering through streets
Dissected by skyscrapers
Which touched the sky,
As comets went by
And the milky way shone bright.
My chest felt heavy
And I fell,
Hurtling towards the dew-laden grass,
And I thought:
It's full of stars.

Yep, works for me: one of the most famous images in the world... remember her name? Kenneth Anger knew it.

Lose one of your 'and's??? Or deliberately repeated?

Typo in dew-la(i)den. (I know, I know).

'Cars blur highways'....Mmmm so good I could eat it. :-)

Good poem,

regards Ewan.

When I read work like this I feel humbled as a poet.

Thanks Ewan and jennifer for your comments.
The "and's" are deliberately repeated, I was trying to force home the continuing, rolling nature of it(if that makes any sense). Glad you noticed it.
Ah typos, my one true foe. It's been corrected.
Wow jennifer, thanks. Possibly the most positive comment I've ever received.

Glad to get feedback and glad you's liked it. :)

I like this poem but I'm not sure I understand it. I'm not clear of the significance of the 'H' in particular. Is there a well-understood symbol or icon here? I do understand the ending (the final lines) and admire it wholly. For me, it has a kind of Irish joie d'esprit.

Thanks for the comment animan.
The giant H in the hills is for setting, I suppose. But I don't want to explain it as I wrote it with many possible interpretations for the reader to take from it(hopefully).
Thats why I read poems again and again; to get different views on them, new ideas. :)

Very beautiful. Like it very, very much...'It's full of stars'. Fantastic.

Strange ending but not uneffective. I liked it, anyway. Cheers
