M=But A Penny

- 620 reads
A humble home beside a row of splendour
Parades its builders fare
Each brick each trowel of mortar
Beset, with shrewd and tender care
A legend in his life-time
But A Penny, he did save
Each bead of sweat from brow that fell
Supplies and tools they gave
Every hour of daylight
He laboured to belief
The dawn a bountiful employer
Each night crept, retributions thief
Threadbare was his clothing
His boots to large or small
But A Penny, strived a frugal life
His dream to build a home
His only call
For years, they mocked his labours
No roof nor glass nor floor
Just a solitary penny
Strung above the door
Thirty years of sweat and toil
His pride and home secured
Shines a momument
To one man's passion
And the dream that he ensured
They say that in the shadows
You can hear him whispering reply
To those that mocked his expectations
As they genially went by
You can'a build on but a penny
To the workhouse you should go
"But A Penny is a mighty seed
When you have time and faith
To watch it grow"
