English rain

from the ABC set Poems

Sounding rain pounding lashing
bouncing rivers running gathering
dirty leaves racing gulleys jumping
up over gaping grills of heavy
iron sills sucking trying drawing
in greedy mouths thirsty holes
deflecting over colliding high
muddy water fountain cold
of night sounding thudding
repeated sounding thudding
desperate sheets tears from
saddened clouds full of
woe bad tidings fear
it is the wettest night
rushing dull pouring down
on the road the path
the frame against the wall
it hammers drones on
drones on shuddering silence
in my English home.

I like this, Louise. You have some very effective sound-patterns here.
