Somewhere else

from the ABC set Poems

We all know what's happening...

and the officer said
it happened like this
the tyre marks suggest
but what does he know
has he never wanted
to be somewhere else

she was fumbling
in her handbag
with a left hand turn
looking for her mobile phone
when the accident occurred
a loud bang, smoke
she was driving
not wanting to be here
just somewhere else

he needed a drag
the comfort of a smoke
he reached for the box
and started to fumble
it was no use
had to take his eyes
off the road to see
and missed the juggernaut
hitting the brakes
oh well too late
he was driving
not wanting to be here
just somewhere else...

how to stop
crashing into things?
I don't know it's difficult
when you want
to be somewhere else.

How true. I think the car robs us of a lot of precious people moments along with being a terribly dangerous thing but then I am not dependant on a car as I take busses. But careless drivers are dangerous on the roads.
I like this little poem. An eye-opener- well written

Thanks Pia, it isn't really about driving though :)
