I've just found out that The Dan David award is given to three catagories a year and another of the winning catagories in 2009 was Astrophysics...

Got this from a friend whose stuff I occasionally post on here and unexpectedly it made me feel sorry for Tony Blair.

I watched “The Special Relationship” and although I was distracted at the time I was very impressed by the film.
If you haven’t seen the film yet I recommend it as an interesting viewpoint which is obviously very ’Democrat’ and pro Clinton but yet seems to wonderfully capture the journey of Blair from being Kennedy (I am a European instead of Berliner) through Clinton and onto being a tool of Bush.
The Blair charm which had captured America was the very thing that captured Blair for Bush.
You can see Blair at the end of the film, his smile pulsing with pleasure at the public adoration from the American crowd.
He is stood with Bush, who is totally immune to Blair’s charm, but using it to steer American opinion and Blair’s European allies toward the invasion of Iraq.
If there was ever a better example of the ‘poisoned pygmy' then it escaped me... "When you have exhausted your hubris and perceived the Poisoned Pigmy in his portrayal of the Pleasant Priest."

Blair’s journey from ‘Left’ to ‘Right’ from ‘charmer’ to ‘charmed’ from ‘hero’ to ‘villain’ is simply the gradual triumph of the wicked whispers of the poisoned pygmy as it masquerades as the pleasant priest urging and compelling ‘for the sake of the greater good’!
I mention this because I realised that few people ever understood the words of the poem…
It is not the person who is the ‘poisoned pygmy’ - in fact the person is often the most deceived - it is another of those ‘influences’ that hides in the subconscious but speaks to the conscious mind.
The ‘host’ is convinced that what they are doing is righteous and morally right because the ‘pygmy’ disguises the real motives beneath a kind of ‘moral crusade’ rationale which justifies the means by the ends and the ends by the illusion that the only way to fight evil is with evil.
So whatever action you take becomes part of the necessary evil which will result in the greater good!
The dangers of not looking deep enough inside yourself can never be stressed enough!
Of all the internal influences the poisoned pygmy is probably the one that drives the corruption of powerful men more than any other and yet even those of us who simply wish to ‘help’ must be careful not to fall under the pygmy’s spell… for few of us can really comprehensively analyse our motives without a smidgeon of self-deception.
It makes you wonder how different the world might be if Clinton had made the warning to Blair that he did in the film (which he may have)
had Blair listened through ears which were not being censored by his need to succeed and by the pygmy’s powerful poison!

What Is NATO up to?
While most of the member countries are suffering economic problems and many are struggling to implement austerity programs why has NATO agreed to spend a fortune on arms upgrades?
It is hard to fathom why NATO should agree to become part of the American missile defence system and indeed who the missile defence system will be protecting NATO countries against...
If, it is Iran or North Korea then it is very hard to see how they could threaten much of the North Atlantic and certainly not most of Europe.
However, the most inexplicable part of the new agreement is the proposed large increase in conventional hardware like tanks and helicopters.
Is this just to frighten the Taliban?
There are those who think it might be to defend against Russia but if so why ask them to be part of the missile defence system?
Surely, if NATO really wants to ensure the safety of its member countries then a UN worldwide missile defence system would make more sense in that the missiles could be shot down almost as soon as they were fired and it would be in everyone’s interest to make sure that who ever fired them could not do so again.
Of course the problem with this system would be that no-one could use missiles and what NATO wants is a system to shoot down missiles OTHER THAN THEIR OWN!
So what could be the real reason behind this agreement?
I would argue that it is either to counter the growing power of China, or, much more likely, a preparation for the US to become the Masters of the World!
The US is essentially bankrupt yet it is still spending money hand over fist on all areas related to military power.
The US has, undeniably, by far the best weapons of war in the world and has a huge number of people being brain washed by the mass media (especially Fox ‘News’) into wondering why they should have to make do with less when they are part of the most powerful war machine on the planet.
Meanwhile, Climate Change is causing crop reductions around the world and serious food riots are just around the corner.
Despite the growing number of weather related catastrophes we never hear much about how the world leaders plan to handle the devastating effects of Climate Change as the Global Weather patterns continue to get more extreme and yet we do see how poorly the world deals with the relatively small (compared to what is coming) disasters in places like Haiti.
So, in a world with far too many people and shrinking resources it may well be that the people who will effectively be paying for all this new weaponry will end up being the people who it is used against.
