I can name some footballers, from when I was young. George Best and Bobby Charlton. I also know at least twenty other footballers’ names, including some goalkeepers and managers. All men, but I can’t name one single female footballer.
That is because, many years, ago, the women’s football teams drew more people to watch them play at matches more than at the men’s and they didn’t like that. The powers that be then banned women from playing. The ban would last for fifty years. That ban caused SO much damaged to talented female football players to be lost and forgotten, and none of their names to be known to me and millions of others here in England. What a tragedy.
For the last three weeks, I’m a Celebrity …. Get Me Out of Here! Has been on, when I saw the line-up, I wanted Scarlett Douglas to win, for I know her from A Place in The Sun, but not everyone has seen it, and the majority didn’t know her, so she was the second person to leave the show.
As I continued to watch the program most evenings, I saw good qualities in others including the controversial contestant that was in there. I liked Zara’s husband, he seemed level headed. But for me a clear new favourite started to shine through.
I didn’t even know her name, or why she was a celebrity. I found out her name and what she is famous for. I’d never heard of her. As others were voted out, they would be asked by Ant and Dec, “Who would you like to win?” Without hesitation lots of them said her name.
I really wanted her to win, as the contestants became less in the jungle. She was amazing, funny, did the trials, fitted in, had words of encouragement, she was the whole package.
Then there were three left, including the controversial contestant. Would he win? Would he win because he is very famous, because of events in our country. He was generally hated by many that watched him. He was voted to do the first seven trials, as the British public got their revenge. It did seem that he was going to break all records and do ALL of the trials for the three weeks. My daughter from her mobile, voted for him to do the trials as did millions of others. Then it seemed as suddenly as his appearance in the jungle, the tide turned and he didn’t do anymore. My daughter was voting for him to stay in! As did millions around England.
So, would he win? No, he came third. He too was asked, “Who would you like to win?” He too said her name, and like another contestant, he dropped hints about her background, while people were still voting.
Then only two remained, and she won! She was crowned the Queen of the jungle. I’m SO pleased for her. xXX
