Sailor Smile

from the ABC set Proems

SAILOR SMILE

I must sail the life's stormy sea,
And head on to my destiny,
This island breeze, it pleases me,
But it couldn't make me what I ought to be.

I must sail the life's stormy sea,
And follow the star that shines brightly above me,
This doubt in my mind, I shaped into a key,
To unlock the shackle and unleash the dreamer in me.

I must sail the life's stormy sea,
And resist the wind that drives men to nonentity,
This heaviness in my heart, I forged into an anchor,
And tied it tightly with my long string of failures.

I must sail the life's stormy sea,
And endure the loneliness that my dreaming will cost me,
The hope in my hat, I changed into a dove,
So that I may send it back, soon, to the ones I love.

And if the star that I will follow,
Leads me to a land of unending sorrow,
My sailor smile, the star shall wear,
Brightly, ... and forever.
