I roll the words around my mouth
And wonder what they mean
For others I feel sure
It is not the same as me.
I worry that I too
Could fail as miserably.
For what have I to measure
Against, but failure.
I wish that it was different,
But I know that it is not
And wishes are no protection
From the harsh realities of fate.

Netty I think this is a really good poem. The first two lines are so sad

Thank you. Having children of my own now gives me perspective, and helps me understand a little better; but still it's question that haunts me. Netty.

Thanks Alice and Julie. I'm glad you like it. It was very therapeutic putting it on paper.
I promised myself I would do the absolute opposite of my Mum, it seemed the right thing. But sometimes I think in trying so hard not to repeat the same mistakes, I might just be making them all over again....

dont worry too much netty. i reckon parenting is a job you cant get right all the time. luck as much as judgement!
ps. netty means something quite different to us geordies! xx

You are not alone - but we don't all put it so elegantly.
