The 'love you' teddy bear

Thankfully it wasn't raining. I hate rain. Unfortunately, the both
of us don't agree on every single thing in the world. She loves rain
and the idea of dancing in it; something I'd dismiss as being childish.
But this was not about rain. It was about something more magical than
just rain. This too seemed to descend from the heavens. It was love, my
heart, her heart and ever decreasing distance between the two..
Fortunately, we do concur on some issues. One of them being the idea of
eating outside regularly. I feel it is a 'sure shot' way to get spend
quality time with your girl or with anyone for that matter. I don't
know if she feels the same; but she likes dining outside and that's all
that matters. The concurrence of opinions ended there. The venue for
our actual outing for the evening was left to be decided, and this is
where, as usual there was a clash of our culinary preferences. You may
begin to think that because of a 'thing' between us, one of us would
acquiesce and go by the other's tastes. But we more than strongly hold
our respective grounds which usually leads to an argument. This is one
quality about her I like very much. So much different from the common
norm that its the Guy who calls the shots.
Somehow neither of us was in any mood to give in and let the other
choose. Maybe it was the weather; a dull winter evening. Maybe the fact
that both of us were fresh and not worn out by work. I soon realised
there was no point going any further. I hate continental food! In an
effort to break the deadlock, I offered that we have dessert. Afterall
you could eat a huge ice cream and manage to eat it slowly
enough.
As it happened I found myself sitting in front of a huge chocolate
sundae (a favorite for both of us). It was not tough to find out that
neither of us were making an effort to finish the icecream. Icecream
was just an excuse! The 'thing' between us was quite obvious to me. Did
she feel the same? The way it was going, I shouldn't have had too many
doubts. We got down to talking and to the topics which usually turn up.
Girls have infinite patience and listen to most of what you say. But
the catch is that they expect you to do the same. By now I was quite
used to this kind of stuff, and beginning to enjoy it. I surely had
developed the patience for it. I had to! I liked her.
Midway into my sundae, I saw her trying to get something out of her
bag. It was something small, could have been her cellphone, maybe her
purse; why dear, I'd be more than happy to buy you icecream. But in
turned out to be something completely different. It was a small doll of
a bear holding a red heart proclaiming 'love you'. I'd seen lots of
such stuff in gift shops, thought they were silly and never bothered
buying one. Again, girls are different. They're supposed to be that
way!
She then gave it to me without making too much of a scene and I gladly
accepted it. It was thins openness I'd begun to like. I promised myself
I'd cherish this one for it was the first gift I got from her. But I
couldn't quite get why she was doing this. Then she said "Know what
today's date is?". Was it Valentine's? No that was a week away. I sort
of thought about it but it didn't strike me that it was six months
since this 'thing' between the two of us had begun. She being a girl,
obviously remembered such stuff. Girl's are always better at
remembering dates and events which to most guys would seem trivial. I
then mumbled an apology and said "Oops... I'm sorry I forgot". Damn! I
should have thought of it and bought something for her..
..How I wish all this wasn't just a dream and had really happened.
Maybe it did happen is some way. And unlike in my dream, I didn't
forget the 'six month anniversary'. Its been half a year since there's
been this 'thing' between me and the company in which I work. In plain
terms the 'thing' is called an 'employment contract'!
As to me getting the small bear with the read heart; guess I have to
wait a long time before that happens..
