Call time over, please hang up

She lingers on the end of the line
waiting for words to be said,
only to find the line dead instead.
Tiredness flashes its unfriendly thoughts
as tears fall from within,
for wisdom seldom drifts
in clouds of two penny treats.
But memories shift to a new terrain
gone are the dreams of yesterday
to be replaced by empty coffins of today.
Passing your grave
her thoughts went on their way,
your essence no longer here to play,
your music set a drift
somewhere in some other place.
Desire untied
she puts down the phone
as defeat lays its exhausted head
and holds out it arms
as at last she sleeps
in her empty bed of scented fantasies.
