Momma's in the Kitchen

from the ABC set A GRANDPA'S CORNER

baking biscuits and me
in the back yard
chopping kindling---arthritis
not friendly each time
I bend, pain
reminding this coot
eighty no longer young.

Grandson gone
to town, milk for my
tea, nice kid
best of the lot, scares me
how quickly he’s
growing.

Soon he’ll not
be visiting since I
won’t be
around for our chats. Only
bits of wood chips
left behind to remind
him I was here
a very short while.

I like this, Richard. It has a 'homely' air about it, and also a sense of quiet resignation.

Thank you, Tina. As I grow older, I realize my mortality and yet time has a way of shuffling instead of scooting as we begin to appreciate the important moments, and we remember...yes, we remember. Richard LP
