Tiger Stadium, USA

from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 2

Remember the peanut man and
His sales pitch shouting
Chips Nuts only a dollar!
(a lot in those days)
In 1976 everyone
Roared Reggie’s at bat!
How we loved that Detroit team

Later outside our bus window
A few blocks away
The silence was stifling
Messed-up streets alarming

A crowd of winos
No baseball excitement
In their eyes
Only the ache from last night’s
Snooze in the Laundromat
Dull stares leftover for another day

Remember them my sons
As your family
Gathers you in with their love.
