WINDED IN THE PINES poem

from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 1

Winded in the Pines

Times be hard maybe born
to lose black not
just a colour of skin
but an attitude of change

education is reading and learning.
Signs of understanding include
food bank lineups in the
West and refugee camps
sharing the flavour
of sunsets.

I stand on the hillside
of shadows
evening whispers above my
vision late sparks of
light sun’s farewell
readying tomorrow’s plan.
