Water Sermon

The water-sermon
I am sustained by the ancient
strength of volatile prophets
I contain enough rage to destroy
a world
I breathe the death-cloud that crept and massacred the
firstborn sons of Egypt
I have waged war against demons and
fashioned spears from their bones
I am the lovesick
beast that storms the citadel
I am the son known by
wolves
I am the hand that gives comfort
yet whom I
have nurtured I can also torture
I burn like a meteor and I
endure like a sun
I have studied the eyes of Abraham and I
have understood
the mandate of the knife at the throat of
Isaac
the Lord has trained my hands for
war
Blessed are they who please me;
I will
be their brother and shepherd
woe unto those who displease
me;
I will be their hunter and their
hangman
I have destroyed myself in the name of
love
I have written hymns fuelled by rage
waking in
the arms of bourbon I have laughed
danced and murdered my
sorrows in a sunshower
momentarily, I am
sedate
soon, I will devastate.
