He sat to write - chapter 6

Chapter 6

Christ I have written one thousand and fifty eight words in the last two days. I feel sort of proud, not that this piece of writing in itself is likely to win any awards, or even get published, but I just think it is a nice companion to my poetry collection, which will not get published either. Yesterday however Louise had a nice idea, you see we currently make jumpers, well not the jumpers themselves but we put designs onto jumpers and it looks pretty cool, although we work quite slowly and have currently only made about four. Anyway our ‘company’ is called Little Black Dog and we hope that we will one day own a store selling our clothes where we could also publish my books ourselves and call it Little Black Dog publishing. This sounds like a dream, but dreams are in my opinion very worth having. If we achieve what we want it would be truly wonderful and if we don’t we will still be quite content, I should imagine.

Louise had this idea because her Mother once published a book herself, which was all about how to look after your pet guinea pig. I find the book funny, but imagine it would be helpful if concerned with the upkeep of your guinea pig. When Louise’s mother first met my mother it was when picking Louise up, I have since learned that when Louise’s mother gets nervous she says anything that comes to her head, which accounts for the fact that upon first meeting with my mother she explained how she had once had her ovaries removed. It was not an altogether comfortable moment. Louise, her mother, her Sister and her father are all small people, they live in a dainty house and own a toy poodle, which is why I find the fact that I brought a Mini from them a source of amusement to this day. Louise’s mother still has a Mini but it is one of the new BMW one’s that are in fact not mini at all but considerably larger than my Polo, they are not cars for which I care as I feel that from the inside out they look like they belong in Noddy land. However they are incredibly popular and so who am I to argue, although we must take note that the Nazi’s where once rather popular in Germany and Katie Price is still popular to this day in England, so the majorities taste does not always suggest quality, although neither does mine.

The first time I went to Louise’s house was when buying my Mini and I remember that she stood shyly on the stairs as I walked in, at this point I hardly knew her. I fell in love with the car. The next time I went to her house was for her sisters birthday I was very drunk and stole two or three yellow rubber ducks, the next time I entered her house we were ‘a couple’, I fell in love with her.

Often I had dropped her home after a date but was not allowed to come in due to her sister, but eventually I was allowed in and I have now spent many days and nights there. Last time I went home from University we stayed up until two in the morning in her living room with her mother and we all talked about ghosts and I couldn’t sleep when we eventually went upstairs to bed as I worried about ghosts all night, a ridiculous moment in an otherwise highly enjoyable evening.

Once, Louise and me went to visit Elizabeth in Bath were she studies English at the Bath Spa University, we borrowed Louise’s mothers Sat Nav and amazingly made it both there and back in my Polo without breaking down. However I left my wallet in Bath. The next morning I checked Facebook only to find a message from a very kind woman who had searched for me, found me and offered to send me my wallet in the post, of course I accepted and my wallet returned a few days later. If that isn’t a piece of luck then I don’t know what is, thank you Jacqui, I don’t remember your second name.

I realise here that perhaps my story telling has become slightly staccato, but I am not sure that I am really a storyteller; I am just making an account of things that have happened.

... but it is a very funny account. Not many people would find a place in their story for comparisons between Nazi Germany and the new BMW Mini, after all.
