He spoke so softly that I could not hear
And so was forced to look up at him
And fall into his deep, deceptive eyes
Swimming and bright.
A summer morning
as the light stole slowly
across the bed and kissed
him gently awake. His eyes
fluttered open and smiled
drowsy and warm into mine
I watched those perfect lips
As he bit at their corner
Draining the ruby red to leave
It cold, vulnerable, white
He rolled over lazily
as I padded across the
room towards him
my finger on those soft
warm lips, his hand in my hair
I closed my eyes
He took my hand tenderly
Held it close and warm in his
Brought up his other to touch my face
His fingers softly kissed my skin
He held me gently
safe in his arms
as his lips trailed down
to mine, slowly gently
we had all the time in the world
and the world at our feet.
He looked at me again with those
Deep, dark eyes, full of questions
Looking lost and alone
He gripped my hand tightly
And nodded at me gently
His words came to me
So softly crashing on my ears
So sensitively tearing at my heart
So delicately destroying all I have
And I realised
Never again would I stand in the doorway
Watching him sleep
No longer would I feel his hand
Trailing down my cheek
And I realised
That all this time
I had loved him
