"American racism is a relic of the past." - Barak Obama, campaign statement
"...and EVEN non-believers." - Barak Obama, adding a generous inclusion in a speech on religious tolerance and diversity; he's a fervent born-again Christian.
Frankly, I believe that the only reason one person can make such a big difference(for good or bad) is because of the superstition of the people, which they've been trained to. How a dictator like Napoleon or a fascist or communist oligarchy could impose themselves on huge civilizations boggles my mind. A traditional monarchy is much more understandable and must have served a great purpose as it was nearly universal(but that's antiquated now, a minor positive at best.)
Look, Barak Obama is one human being, one homo-sapien, one brain in a nation of incredible sophistication and complexity: though maybe less so than some states.
What makes "everyone" think he's such a big factor in putting our nation back together again? What can one person do in a sea of 300 million? A lot more before modern technology and recent examples of dictators.
To call a spade a spade, I think he's a smooth-talking, philosophically juvenile man with some redeeming qualities, two of which are a certain willpower and courage(as a Black president, he taps a great river of good-will but also stands in peril of his life.)
I say it's time we stop creating demi- Gods. I'm not waiting for Obama to help put our country together or make the world a better place. I, (like all active, philosophically advanced humans) am doing my part in my way and have been for a long time.
When I check the news, I want to read about complex world developments, foreign cultures, new technologies(I rarely have that opportunity, even though I rely on the BBC.) I don't want to live my life through Obama, Bush, Napoleon, Prince William, Brad Pitt, George Clooney or some new Trotsky or Lenin.
