an ode to Obama

A great African-American warrior,
he fights racists, idealists, and spin-doctors from every direction,
and,
battling them with one mammoth hand,
he gives America the most progressive government
we've had since F.D.R.
with the other

True: he's not really a philosopher.
He's always giving us examples
of American greatness that,
as often as not,
don't make much sense
to the rational mind

But the passion in his voice
and the compassion in his eyes
could move stones
to a sense of community and civic duty

As he speaks,
in the crowd:
the peacenik waves the flag
as bombs fall overseas,
racism that survived MLK melts away,
and the fervent atheist
pumps his fist,
as Obama booms:
"And God bless the U.S.A.!!"

since I read his biography, I admire this man. I think he means well and is honest (a rare find among politicians nowadays...) But will he be heard, understood? This world is hard of hearing, greedy and selfish. Sadly.
