the sandwich philosophy

I say,
if we want to stop war crimes in Iraq...
we should give somebody hungry
a sandwich

If we want to prevent the next bad war,
we should give somebody weak and hungry
a sandwich

If we want a more educated world,
we should give somebody ignorant
a sandwich
(who can learn on an empty stomach?)

If we want to stop global warming,
we should think of the local birds...
and give them a sandwich

If we're concerned about the ravages
of imperialism in Africa and Vietnam,
we should give a sandwich...
to somebody of a different race,
especially if somebody from that race
has wronged us

The universal "military-industrial" complex
can handle a lot of intelligent protest
(likes silence even better,)
and just loves getting shot at

But it often folds
when confronted with a sandwich
