I've been terrified since long before 9-11,
since I figured out there's no heaven,
that the American dream of a land of the free
is corrupted beyond recovery,
and though most still practice so-called "Christianity,"
the real God is the all-mighty TV:
a whole new pantheon of violence, greed, and conformity.
See crazy Arabs aren't what scare me;
It's these hawks who believe in Yankee invincibility
and know next to nothing of history or philosophy,
It's these schools and rules that box us in,
teach us that only their drugs are free of sin,
that our primal nature must stay locked within;
It's these polite mice they call educated men;
It's peoples around the world living in imperial sweat-shops
(and if they ask for more porridge,
they get thugged by the cops.)
They tell us Venezeula
and The Earth Liberation Front are terrorist threats,
and that we should worship their corporations,
Frankenstein technologies, and nationalist ballots;
Well, I say we'd do better to spend some time with Gaiia,
read Trotsky, Epicurus, and Nietzche,
live by tribal law and sleep in tents.
See I've been scared since I was a brilliant, oppressed, ostracized youth;
But lately I'm terrified of how they'll pay me for telling the truth.

Perhaps 'Terrified of America' would be just as appropriate a title. You have very good reason for your fears but unfortunately this is not a problem that comes down just to the nature of the USA - For me a critique of the US is only useful if it is part of a radical critique of capitalism, the state and hierarchy in general. Try adding Kropotkin (the real one!) and Bookchin to your reading list - I'd drop Nietzche and Trotsky if I were you.
