Today I saw my demon
Although he’s nothing new,
He’s lurked for years in darkness
Cursing everything I do,
I now know what he looks like
It’s him beyond all doubt,
This time I will fight him
It’s time to write him out.
I take up my chosen weapons
Trusty parker and A4,
Concentrate my thinking
Tempt that demon to the door,
He feints behind the feint lines
Parries my coupe,
Its foils off now my demon friend
En Garde, punk, make my day,
Your coupe was a passé,
My repost to fast for you
You cannot hide in darkness friend
Admit you’re beat, Touché!
I’ve pinned the slimy devil,
My parker’s nib has won
And now he’s in the spotlight
He’s not scary after all,
He felt so big inside me
And uglier than sin,
I’m almost feeling guilty
As I throw him in the bin.

The pen is mightier than the shedim! Great poem, wish I could pin my devil down (he sits on my shoulder, the blighter, but I still can't get to him) I'll have to give it a try, see if I can "put him to writes".

Wow - love this, Shirley! Definitely one of my favourite poems of yours ;) The pen is definitely a writer's greatest weapon. Love these lines;
'Its foils off now my demon friend
En Garde, punk, make my day,'
- very reminiscent of one of my favourite poets, Carol Ann Duffy!

Tina, if only there was only the one eh!
Magic, I haven't read any Carol Ann Duffy, I will now,
This was one of those random thought's that I had to write down to get rid of, very glad you like it,:~}

That was a good piece, you captured both the feel of a duel and the point that all struggles begin with our selves. Makes me glad my demon shares a mutual scatalogical humour, I just have to watch where it pops out other than that we have a great time.
