Pretty Flamingo

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

‘Crimson dress
that clings so tight.
She’s out of reach
and out of sight...’

She glides past me
parting the air
with a rustle of silk;
her perfume, drifts
on the wind – potent
long after she is gone...
That old song springs
to mind...

I was young...
then; about her age.
Time goes so fast –
literally flies...like
the tips of her feathers
that just brushed
my face.

I have a thing for crimson dresses.
Not that I wear them of course.

"...her perfume, drifts on the wind – potent
long after she is gone..."

A loving and touching memory.

Hello Tina,

Oh! happy memories that song brings to mind, I was
madly in love with Paul Jones from Mannfred Mann,
I had pictures of him all over my bedroom wall.

Later when my son was born, I called him Paul Jones,
after my hero, still listen to him on the radio,
playing blues music, which I love.

Thankyou for reminding me of that special song.

Your poem has such air of delicateness about it.

Simply beautiful.

Jenny.

Hi Tina,

just thought I would come back to say, I cannot get
that song out of my mind. I shall probably be
singing it till I go to bed.

But it's a great song to get stuck in my head, so
I don't mind at all.

Jenny.

Thanks, Jenny;-)

That song has special memories for me too. It was at that time in my life when I was just discovering who I was, and I too, was madly in love with Paul Jones.

Really glad you enjoyed this and appreciate hearing about your memories. He was a fantastic blues player too, I couldn't agree more.

Hi there, Pia. Paul Jones was the lead singer of Manfred Mann. He was really dishy...or at least Jenny and I think so;-)

Pleased you enjoyed and thanks so much for telling me.

Tina;-)
