The X Factor - the pursuit of a speedy end to civilisation

X Factor

I try my best to be normal
I want to think normal stuff
I used to watch the television
But now I’ve just had enough

I’m covered in the spit of bad fortune
As the talentless shag for fame
They’ll be coming to get me soon
For I must be going insane

Please tell me that this is a bad dream
And the X factor means fuck all to me
I’m not one for strictly come dancing
Or watching so much shit on tv

Now those who want to defend
The watching of cerebral vd
Maybe you just need some more friends
To help set your small mind free

Because if this is the way
That we are to go
Please turn down the sound
And cancel the show

Lord make our deaths quick
So we don’t have to show face
It’s not a good thing to be thick
So let's go to our coffins with grace

I can’t be the only one who really doesn’t care
Whether a dildo sings live or not
There must something better out there
to stop me from wishing my body to rot

My feelings exactly! I now have a V Box which records all sorts of stuff and means that I never have to watch the rubbish. I can record the weird French films that are on the middle of the night and watch those instead.

Cerebral VD... What a great image. These programmes make me so unreasonably angry sometimes - you don't have to watch them but you can't help seeing the inane faces on the covers of magazines, or coming across articles about them in the press - that reading about someone else's anger, so pithily expressed, is a real relief...

'the world would be a better place if the parents had to eat the sprouts'

couldn't agree more Antonia those programs drive me insane even though I've never watched one. I just hope there's more of us than them.

I wish, smokejack, but I'm afraid there's more of them - or they wouldn't be such a phenomenon... But then it makes your poem even more timely - clouds, silver lining, etc.?
