This place ain’t what it used to be son,
it’s all fast food and arcades now.
An’ look at all the rubbish blowin' on the prom
doesn’t nobody care no more?
Look at them girls son,
what do they think they’re wearin?
We didn’t show so much flesh in our day.
No mum shall we have chips for us tea?

Summers ain’t what they used to be son.
They used to be longer and hot.
An' we knew how to have fun we did.
Yer dad bought us pink candyfloss son
then we had our photo took,
in a booth on the pier
Them were the days they was.
Yes mum shall we have chips for us tea?

It is a great photo isn't. This IP was such fun but so challenging - took me nearly the full week to find a pic which felt 'right'....nearly went with dark moody, evocative shots and then more esoteric images, all of which might have allowed me to be 'clever' or show off. But not one felt quite right. Then I stumbled across this. And it's simplicity and directness was perfect. If you've the time it's worth checking out the photographer's portfolio, there are some really nice street shots. Margot

Oh and here's another flickr portfolio worth looking into, especially if, like me, a lover of B&W and street photos.

A clever poem. That's meant as a compliment. Two very convincing voices and I particularly liked their unbalanced contributions to the dialogue, with the son merely providing a refrain.

An uncomfortable image, though. I felt I shouldn't laugh, but couldn't help doing so.

Well done on getting POW.

Ewan

Thanks Chuck. Such great characters in the pic tho', don't you think? Margot

Thank you so much for the POW Tony - I'm thrilled that you're sticking with this IP for another week. Margot

Thank you Ewan. Compliment very gratefully accepted. p.s. I think it was partly the discomfort it elicited that interested me; and the characters' apparent indifference. But I think there is a touch of pathos in there too. It would have been so easy to give in to temptation to ridicule them tho'.

Ewan | August 29, 2009 - 13:13

Yes, I think that's true. It's all to easy to judge, something that the photographer, to his/her great credit, appears not to do.
