Smile for me, my time has come,
the lords of war beat loud their drum
and I must go and join the fear,
too fight for all, that I hold dear.
I know, you’ll not remember me,
if I should fall and cease to be,
but know, that I did love you well
and in my aching heart you’ll dwell.
With my last breath, I’ll longing sigh,
your name and so my last goodbye,
though doubtless sad, be tinged with joy,
as I recall, my baby boy.
He placed me gently in my cot,
and with blue ribbon, tied a knot
around this note, he left with me,
to read, when old enough to ‘see’.
And I have read a thousand times,
the words of love within the lines...
He fell at Ypres; there he lies,
beneath the [hard won] peaceful skies.
Each year, I wear my Poppy proud
and raise my eyes, too search the clouds;
I try hard, to equate the cost,
Of what we’ve won, with what we’ve lost?

A poignant poem for this 'remembrance time', Chris, with a hard-hitting finale.
Well done on the cherry;-)

Hi! Chris.
What a great way to write.
For the Remembrance day.
Very powerful from the heart.
'We will remember them'
I ask myself why! must it go on.
Peace come one day.
We went to 'Help The Heroes' show
x factor star singer Terry Winstanley
Tarring Worthing Sussex. Great voice.
Put on at Assembly Hall Worthing, and 8 of star contestants in, brilliant show, raised £6,000 so far
at 51 age very good. Plenty photos we had and to-gether with all, my Ray took, young and older they were, all so nice. And met Terry Winstanley,
and photoed to-gether Ray took and all contestant
x factor stars, should have got through in.
told all about AbcTales to join.
too, fab; show.
Then managed Peace Statue, for three minutes
silence,quite few there,and children schools
were a credit. Very cold wind on seafront.
Blessing given, laying of wreath poppies by mayoress.
And a march done, flags. But oh so cold.
Well done on cherries! course you should
very important day, of which you mastered well
written.
bless you

This poem is very powerful in its message - its not just the soldiers that died but the loved ones they left behind that suffered too. I did like it:)

Thanks Juniperus; isn't it always? I like to think of them, as more than just statistics; Glad you liked...
