Why express
To just depress
Despite the best intention
Ego’s rule
And some fool
Calls yours false perception
I think I must
Abandon trust
Lock up opinion now
For their fears
Could hold my tears
And kill the sacred cow
Why express
To just depress
Despite the best intention
Ego’s rule
And some fool
Calls yours false perception
I think I must
Abandon trust
Lock up opinion now
For their fears
Could hold my tears
And kill the sacred cow

This might be a very wise and beautiful poem, but I'm not 100% sure, as the message is a bit cloudy. This bit confuses me:
"Ego’s rule
And some fool
Calls it false perception".
Some fool calls the rule of egos 'false perception'? But surely, it's not foolish at all, to call the bullying tirade of an egotist false perception? Egotism *is* false. It would make more sense to me if it was:
"Egos rule
As some fool
Calls yours false perception" (or something).
I think I understand the sentiment of the poem and empathise with it. To me, you are saying that there are people out there who will bully others into submission by saying "You're wrong, you're wrong, you're wrong, respect my opinion, I don't have to respect yours, all your thoughts are shit, do exactly what I say and you'll be a much better human being."
I've known a few people like that.

thanks a lot 'M'. You hit the nail on the proverbial head (re: change). It WAS actually about my opinion and someone else's ego preventing them having any kind of respect for it; even though the opinion was positive. It is as if I was not qualified to offer and opinion because, be it good or bad; it was irrelevant. Therefore to prevent self confidence being compromised - it may be safer to keep opinions to one's self. I am not advocating this sentiment; it was just offered as ONE solution.
your comments greatly appreciated

I don't think it's wise to simply keep your opinions to yourself. I think it's important however, to know who you can share your opinions and feelings with, and who you can't.
There will always be plenty of people out there who don't want to listen to you or consider your opinions or understand the way you feel. These people have a serious lack of emotional intelligence, and do indeed "kill the sacred cow". Emotional intelligence is what life is all about. It's much more important than academic intelligence.
Life is about finding out who has it, befriending those who do, and avoiding those who don't...

PS You don't need the apostrophe in "ego's".
