The mist hovers, cradled within the valley,
wisps starting to break away and run
from the lazily blooming dawn.
We perch on the lower branches
of the great Oak, surveying our Kingdom.
The smell of fresh cut grass,
signaling 'High Summer'.
The sound of stone on scythe, cutting through
the bird and grasshopper symphony.
Somewhere a cow lows, udder empty; can full.
The smell of a rasher frying, wafts briefly;
salivation guaranteed. And with the fog
dissolving, as candyfloss on the tongue,
revealing the multi-green fields of Kent...
the Kings run home for breakfast.

Beautifully atmospheric, Chris! It's a sunny day in West Yorkshire today so I only have to look outside my window to picture this ;)

This is wonderful, Chris, although when I first read it, I must admit I was a touch worried about the cow;-) He seems fine now, fortunately;-)
You really do create a colourful picture with your words and I can smell the new-mown grass. Roll-on summer,eh?

As your summer comes, so mine goes. All this does is remind me of what I'm about to lose. Bloody lovely work, though.

Thanks S.C. Lovely day here today but a summer's day in Kent takes some beating (if my memory serves me right) ;)
threeleafshamrock | April 11, 2010 - 13:41
Lol, thanks Tina (got the cow fixed). Like summer here today...and about time ;)
threeleafshamrock | April 11, 2010 - 13:43
Thanks D. Your summer is probably like our winter, time seems to be going so bloody fast that it won't be long until it's around again...that's old age for ya ;)
