Tarantula Tide
By the unfolding head

She fell
like a tiny piece of stone
broke away
from sanity's cliff face
crumbling rocks of reason
splashing into depths of mirrored
indigo anxiety
I inhaled
one more for the road
Woke up
booed and heckled by the morning audience
a slow clap alarm clock
yelling
pulling Judas faces
gouging at my conscience
with their yellow snagged nails
overgrown and chewed
they crimp my quilt
as I peer out into the grey light
frightened
Cold sweat in my ears
nostrils blocked
with bad ideas
She stood
on her old wedding gown
dusty bleak
jaundice brown
salty sad
like a washed out frown
trodden on by time
and the weight of expectations
letting wide smiles
and everybody who came
to witness
down
down
down
letting little gasps of nuzzling love
struggle against the current
slipping gulps of white foam
It drowned
drowned
drowned
it drowned
drowned
drowned
