andrewjames
Poet, actor, raconteur, philanthropist millionaire, property magnate, spy. Just a few labels that have never been applied to Andrew James. Until, hopefully, now. Well, at least the poet one.
Andrew James divides his time between North Yorkshire and London, which makes him something of a Crystal Palace supporter in semi-exile (sometimes no bad thing). His first volume of poetry, Gareth Southgate’s Proverb, was published by Mediamark at the end of 2006. One poem from this collection, Semi-Finality Blues, won the esteemed title of Football Poem of the Week on the 4theGame.com website in July 2006, seeing off over 30 other entries to take the prize. Not exactly the Forward Poetry Prize, but hey, recognition is, um, recognition. It has also recently been published in Magma Poetry magazine. During the nine-to-five day, Andrew James runs a marketing agency and he lists horse riding, cooking, contemporary art and drinking fine Rioja amongst his non-literary pleasures. His poetry gods (and a goddess) include Carol Ann Duffy, John Hegley and Eddie Gibbons.
