CALIGULA &; THE INFERNO
On the streets the crowds are baying,
In among them a fire is spreading,
Fast the tongues of flame are flaying,
Quick towards the palace heading
Murder, shriek the hands that burn,
Blister 'gainst the edge of steel,
Ignited by the flesh they yearn for,
Watching, they their hand conceal
Oh, and does he wait
For bitterness to turn to hate?
Oh, and will we hide
When death rides out, his final bride?
Darkness in the alley blind,
Spattered red by the light from their coals,
That rage and fuel and poison mind,
Ravage and inflame their souls
Down and down the daggers fall,
Spit from the furnaces born in their hearts,
His blood, the inferno, gushes forth over all,
Then from this world he swift departs
Oh, and did he wait
For love to quench and sin to sate?
Oh, and did he smile
As death rode up the wedding aisle?
