The Grain

from the ABC set Concrete Decisions

I wander to the water’s edge
summoned by an unexplained
sense of tranquility
I stand in these collapsing waves
as they volley against my feet
drenching me in the comfort
of it's familiar harmonic lulling
feeling the tender touch of
northern breezes
slide across my face

The gulls resign from the water
to stand with tepid toes
on the sea of eroding shells

Together, we watch in the distance
as the sun merges with the horizon
creating pomegranate swirls
champagne star bursts
scorched marbles
on the delicate azure sky
Life is sculpting around me
reducing me to a single grain
of the sand I rest upon

Yep, it's a good poem, simple as that.
